BestPrac.Org Stop Spam : Best Practice in Email
|
BestPrac.Org is a globally focused anti spam organization, founded in January 2001 aiming to stop spam worldwide. In recent years, there has been a proliferation of client-side spam blockers and anti spam filters. Their success has been very limited as the damage of stolen bandwidth and unauthorized use of network and private computer resources persist when the spam is merely blocked at the final destination. Even today, with the widespread use of client-side spam filters, many independent studies show that between 85% and up to 95% of all global email is still spam. Over-reliance on such client-side spam blockers and anti spam filters have become counter-productive in the fight to stop spam.
Furthermore, with the proliferation of spam filtering technology in recent years has come the counter attack from the 'dark side'. The spammers themselves have adopted newer technologies such as viruses, spyware and trojans to infect unaware computer users and turn their machines into unwitting "zombie" spam mills.
Many governments around the world have, in recent years, enacted anti spam laws seeking to outlaw spam. While we commend governments for showing such initiative and defining right from wrong, no law can halt spam. The majority of modern-day spam is sent by or on behalf of organized criminal gangs that have little regard for the law and who have the resources to misuse technology to hide their identities and to move or hire out their operations to jurisdictions where such laws do not exist. Furthermore, few governments have committed the necessary resources to seriously enforce the laws they have enacted.
BestPrac.Org has believed since its inception that there are better technically feasible ways to stop spam than mere spam filtering alone or the reliance on legislated anti spam law and that the anti spam fight must be addressed at the source - not the destination. In co-operation with Network Administrators and other concerned spam fighting individuals around the world, BestPrac.Org has developed a comprehensive set of 'Principles of Best Practice' for twenty (20) categories of internet companies, professionals and users in order to stop spam before it is sent, or at the earliest point possible along network routes. These sets of Principles of Best Practice are regularly updated to reflect evolving technological change and the ever-changing techniques adopted by spammers.
All internet users will benefit from greater spam protection when all parties including ISPs, corporations, hosting services and the everyday private internet user adopt BestPrac.Org's Best Practices in Email Spam Prevention and adopt now universally recognized email ethics and netiquette.
BestPrac.Org's Principles of Best Practice are essential guides for all people who are involved in any way in either sending or receiving email, whether for private purposes or responsible opt in bulk email, or for those involved in ethical email marketing for business or enterprise.
